The story of my love for children didn't begin with me becoming a mother but it was definitely enhanced by this new way of BEing. I had always enjoyed the company of children younger than me and began my babysitting service at the age of twelve. At some points of my journey, I actually preferred the company of babies and little children over all others. I just loved their energy, inquisitiveness, imagination, laughter, and innocent honesty.
One of my favorite legs of this journey was from conception (joy...ha!) to the work of daily motherhood which was draining and recharging at the same time. It was such a beautiful feeling to be a CREATOR carrying a life inside me and learning to adapt to their needs inutero--the ultimate sacrifice of sharing my literal body with another BEing. Then they emerged and began stretching me in other ways (besides my abdominal skin...LOL) becoming my spiritual partners. They are now in their 30s and I'm so grateful that I am here to see them BE who they choose to BE.
I became a public school teacher when my oldest was a toddler and the love for other people's children expanded my heart, mind, soul and emotions even further. Wanting the best for all children became my passion and I treated the children I taught like I treated my own children--including the high expectations, discipline, love and allowing them to tell me who they BE. I made it my purpose to create fun learning experiences for them and always found a way around school curriculum and programs that I felt dishonored the joy of childhood. Throughout my thirty-five year career, I was a rebel teacher/student, administrator, professor advocating for the rights of children to ENJOY the process of learning. I learned so much about myself while living in that timeline and I am eternally grateful to the children who taught me to see myself fully and address my inner-child wounds.
As a grandmother (Mama is the title...LOL), I have been gifted more children to play with, be inspired by, teach and learn with. This is so cool...all the joy, half the work of parenting!! What?!! But I had to learn to sit in the role of GRAND-mother and not mother where the girls are concerned. It has been liberating and lovely once I figured out how to do it. My dissertation is all about that journey. Maybe I'll link it to this page for those who REALLY LOVE to read ;). Ok, I'll just give you the title of that manuscript... "I Got This!": Single, Black Millennial Mothers Describe Their Journey to Self-Efficacy As First Teachers. Guess who inspired the title, my daughter!! Ha!! She was often reminding me of my current position as GRAND-mother and NOT THE MOMMA, "Ma, I GOT THIS!" We laugh every time we remember those moments because her declaration was typically followed by, "Can you keep the girls tomorrow?" LOLOLOL.
Well, this page is dedicated to children, educators, families and communities that support and work to secure the joy of childhood! I hope you enjoy and are expanded by the content. It is definitely a work in progress as this website is also my blog and vlog space. Check back often to see what is new. Subscribe to the website to be sure you don't miss out on what's new. Love you and WELCOME HOME!
We constantly hear about how epigenetics affects our lineage but we must also consider how EPIC-genetics (my revelation) plays out in our families. Family Affair is a project designed to increase a family's ability to tap into that generational greatness while creating individual and collective visions. It is helpful for each member of the family to set individual goals and be valued for their own identity while the family as a whole develops collective goals for holistic wellness simultaneously. Through JSYOU, Family Affair will offer tools, assist you in creating your own practices and encourage all involved through the process. Email me at justsunorobind@gmail.com to set up a consultation.
During my thirty-five years of service in public education (elementary to post secondary schools), I have worn many hats. Elementary teacher, building administrator, Human Resources administrator, County SEL Coach, college professor and public speaker are a few of those. I am always excited to share the wisdom I have gained from children, families, communities, students and my lived experiences in all those roles. We are at a crossroads and we have to know that we can create a world rooted in LOVE not fear. Let's talk, let's create, let's evolve and envision what we could BE ... how we could BE differently. No limits! Email me at justsunorobind@gmail.com to discuss ways we could collaborate!

"If I Can See It" was a 4 week long vision board experience for teen girls hosted by Just S'UNO.
From childhood on into my teenage years, I watched Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and other fun and educational shows. Those shows are what became the spark of a 35 years career in education. I spent 20 of those years teaching and learning with kindergarten students and am now excited to create more online and live programs for young people. Check out my YouTube channel (Just So You Know Family @ Just S'UNO) and it will be evident that creating enjoyable and exciting learning environments and content for children is one of my passions.
Children know who they are until they are forced to conform. Those who are seen, heard and validated early in life grow into adults who shake things up and shape a more accepting, liberated and loving world. Just S’UNO is about that life...that liberated life! We are currently working to develop more children's books and offerings that encourage young people to see themselves as holistic BEings part of a network of love. You can support our work by making a donation. Your gift will help us develop and offer programs that support the renewing of young minds. We need to leave the gate open so our babies can get out and BE FREELY! #forthechildren
